Genie The Life & Recollections of Eugenie Clark just released! This is a wonderful biography of the life of the extraordinary Genie.
“Eugenie Clark was a person of humble origins. Genie became one of the most successful American scientists (ichthyologist) of the twentieth century. She was the most famous woman diver, whose diving adventures are stuff of legends. Genie had five husbands, four quite interesting and wanted to marry again at age 88. She interacted with the more interesting people of her era -Nobel laureates, princes, and emperors. She continued to dive and write scientific papers until her final days.
This is the story of Eugenie Clark, as she told it to me, as I saw it, and as her friends, colleagues, and students recounted their anecdotes.
Biographers seldom have the chance to speak with the person they write about and I had the unusual privilege to spend a lot of time with Genie. We conversed about her life and experiences and preparing her biography. In the interest of accuracy, and to convey the essence of the conversations as well as her personality, I have freely quoted Genie whenever possible. I think this approach conveys most precisely Genie’s words and thoughts.”
